PHENOLIC COTTON CLOTH
Phenolic cotton cloth, commonly known as Canvas Bakelite, is a laminated composite formed by bonding layers of cotton fabric with phenolic resin under heat and pressure. The result is a hard-wearing, self-lubricating material long favoured in bearing, gear and insulation applications where metal-on-metal wear or electrical conductivity would be a problem. McNeall Plastics supplies phenolic cotton cloth in paper, canvas (fine and coarse weave), graphite filled and glass filled grades.

The weave and filler you choose has a direct effect on performance. Finer canvas weaves suit precision bushes and rollers, while graphite filled grades add a degree of self-lubrication useful in dry-running applications. Because phenolic laminates produce a fine dust during machining, we recommend appropriate dust extraction during fabrication, which our workshop is equipped to manage.
