AUSTLON (PA6 G)

AustLon® (PA6 G) is a high grade engineering plastic manufactured exclusively by McNeall Plastics Pty Ltd, a wholly owned Australian company.
AustLon® (PA6 G) is a monomer cast nylon produced by a unique process known as activated anionic adiabatic polymerisation. This method of nylon production results in a highly crystalline engineering plastic, which means a tougher, wear resistant engineering plastic. AustLon® (PA6 G) is the preferred material where issues stemming from abrasive wear, impact strength, bearing strength, noise, weight and corrosion have been difficult to resolve.
AustLon® (PA6 G) provides superior performance — with and without lubrication — in a range of applications, in particular as a bearing material. AustLon® (PA6 G) is lightweight, offers extremely good wear and abrasion resistance, high mechanical strength and high modulus of elasticity when compared to other industrial plastics.
Other advantages of AustLon® (PA6 G) include:
- High impact resistance
- Excellent noise reduction and vibration dampening
- Resistance to brittleness and UV deterioration
- Low friction due to high lubricity
- Exceptional machinability
- Suitable for the food industry
- Flexibility of design
- Resistance to chemicals and corrosion
Plus, AustLon® (PA6 G) is Australian-made, with 100% of production done in-house at our NSW headquarters. With AustLon® (PA6 G) you don’t have to worry about any potential disruption or delay to supply, or be concerned about a lack of quality. You can be confident that when you choose AustLon®
(PA6 G) and McNeall Plastics you are selecting an engineering plastics partner that outsmarts and outperforms the rest.
AUSTLON® (PA6 G) GRADES
McNeall Plastics manufactures 3 primary grades of AustLon® (PA6 G):
AustLon®
(PA6 G)
C100
Hard. Nylon PA 6G polymer.
100% Caprolactam.
AustLon® (PA6 G) C100 is hard and tough, and measures 80 shore “D” in hardness, which makes it ideal for demanding wear applications. AustLon® (PA6 G) C100 is processed by casting into a mould, providing a very flexible product. It is also readily machinable meaning it is the product of choice for low to medium volume production runs.
AustLon® (PA6 G) C100 is well suited to weight bearing applications, such as sleeve bearings, wear plates, rope sheaves, bushings and slides.
AustLon®
(PA6 G)
C90
Semi-resilient. Nylon PA 6/12G co-polymer.
90% Caprolactam (Nylon 6) +
10% Laurinlactam (Nylon 12). PA6/12G.
The addition of laurinlactam significantly improves the impact properties over AustLon® (PA6 G) C100, with a slight reduction in hardness and wear properties.
Similar materials to AustLon® (PA6 G) use a chemical plasticiser additive to improve impact properties and machinability. These plasticisers are often used because they cost less and reduce processing time of cast nylon whilst providing some benefits to impact properties. At McNeall Plastics we have resisted using such additives to provide the highest quality product to our customers.
AustLon® (PA6 G) C90 is ideal for applications that experience impact, such as gears, profile formers, chain guides, coupling components and items that may be subject to rough treatment.
AustLon®
(PA6 G)
C80
Resilient. Nylon PA 6/12G co-polymer.
80% Caprolactam +
20% Laurinlactam. PA6/12G.
This unique product offers superior impact properties over other cast nylons, making ideal for severe impact applications, such as pile driving pads where a hammer repeatedly impacts on the material.
It should also be noted that the addition of nylon 12 reduces the percentage moisture absorption. This in turn reduces the amount of dimensional change.
AustLon® (PA6 G) C80 is ideal for applications such as pile cushions, buffer pads and wear pads that require impact resistance.
AUSTLON® (PA6 G) TYPES
AustLon®
(PA6 G)
Natural
- Cream colour
- Free of any additives
- Ideal for applications where food grade compatibility is a primary requirement.
- AustLon® Natural (C100 & C90) material is FDA, USDA and 3A Dairy compliant.
- Provides excellent electrical insulating properties
AustLon®
(PA6 G)
Carbon-Infused
- Black colour
- Infused Carbon acts as a dry lubricant, improving wear properties over AustLon® Natural
- Carbon improves the manufacturing process reaction properties, producing a harder, more wear-resistant product
- Exceptional ultra-violet (UV) properties significantly reduces UV degradation
- Highly crystalline and the hardest, more wear-resistant AustLon®
- Machinability ensures very fine finishes are achievable
- Ideal for long-term outdoor applications and ones that require resilience to high surface pressure such as rollers and conveyor chain wear strips.
AustLon®
(PA6 G)
Oil-Infused
- Olive green in colour
- Specially developed using blended machinery lubricants that perform well under heavily loaded applications
- Contains high viscosity, industrial grade oil that is evenly dispersed within the material.
- Provides an oil boundary layer to reduce friction, accommodating higher surface pressures.
- Ideal for applications such as sleeve bearings, wear plates and slides.

How does AustLon® differ to other cast nylons? |
Whilst AustLon® is similar to other brand named monomer cast nylons, it does have distinct differences due to variations in the manufacturing process. For example, AustLon® C100 cast nylon is a harder, more wear resistant product than other available cast nylon brands. This is because AustLon® is 100% caprolactam. |
